The forest is open during daylight hours for hiking, bicycling, canoeing, horseback riding, fishing, and wildlife viewing. Primitive campsites are available by reservation through www.ReserveAmerica.com at the Hammock Campground and Bootlegger Campground. The forest also has primitive hike-in camp zones located at the North Fork Black Creek Trail, Dunn's Farm Trail, and Pioneer Trail.
The forest contains four hiking trails (Fire and Water, North Fork Black Creek, Dunn's Farm, and Pioneer Trail) and four horseback riding trails (Evan's Loop Trails and Long Branch Trails).
